The use of reference letters
Thursday 26 May by CSI counselor
It is often important to have someone qualified support your application.
If you decide to study in Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland, the principal person who writes a reference is the CSI counselor.
If you plan to study in the U.S., this counselor will have to provide a reference for you as your COUNSELOR, and you will have to furnish all the information in the next paragraph for him or her to do that, but it will also make it possible to counsel you on which teachers can provide a good additional reference (often required) for you based on the confidential reference they give the counselor about you.
IN EVERY case, to prepare this letter, the counselor needs a completed student dossier for you (attached below, but also see Overview of the process) including a lot of information about you, your grades, a statement by your parents about you as well, and a completed reference letter which every teacher you have in première WITH NO EXCEPTIONS must fill out and give directly to the counselor as soon as 2nd trimester marks in 1ère have been announced. Download the reference letter form attached to this article and fill in the top part completely yourself before giving copies of it to each teacher.
Using the dossier, the references and his or her knowledge of you, the counselor will then write a reference, explaining what the OIB is, how it is very different from the IB, predicting your bac results based on teacher forecasts, and tell universities all the positive things that we can say about you (which may be a lot or not very much depending on how you've performed.) This reference will be sent to you so you can give feedback, suggestions, etc. Predictions can be changed... but keep in mind that if they are increased, while you may get more offers, they will be harder to meet. And if they are lowered, they will be easier to meet, but you may get fewer offers.
Pay close attention to the titles of courses on the reference's predictions, because these titles must be entered exactly like that on the qualifications sections of your applications. These titles indicate clearly exactly how difficult the subject studied was. Don't hesitate to contact counselors for more information.
